RAW & Authentic

Carolyn Marosy (pronounced like “Lugosi”,
Ma-RO-see) has always been led by her love of guitar playing and rock and roll. Influenced by blues, punk, surf and folk music, she has now embraced two sides of her musicality. She is both an acoustic solo performer with a more personal repertoire, and the  “electric lady” on lead vocals and guitar in the rock and roll duo “Orangutwins”.

After many years playing lead, rhythm and bass guitar backing different singers and bands, 2019 was a year to turn over a new stone. Carolyn resolved to make her own musical statements.
To launch her vision, she hit the studio with multi-platinum producer, Barb Morrison (Blondie, LP , Rufus Wainwright).
Riding on the ebb and flow
of powerful electric and bluesy acoustic guitars, she released the “Loners, Misfits and Rebels” EP in 2022. Her self-empowerment is the fight back against all of the fears, demons and self-doubts that keep us from fulfilling our dreams.
This EP celebrates the circle of life and honors uniqueness and individuality, celebrating it with a fervor. It is a rocking, stomping ground of memories and a victory dance for those of us who survived the worst of times, and a tribute to those of us who didn't.

Equally important as a great record, playing live has always been a crucial element in making music and connecting with an audience.
A milestone in her journey occured in April 2024, when Carolyn was invited to perform at the legendary Troubadour in London.
Carolyn loves being onstage both solo and with Orangutwins, and losing herself in the moments that can only happen by showing up and giving her all.

Carolyn has been living in Kingston, NY since 2015, and playing music for most of her life. She has no intention of stopping any time soon.

Carolyn has been hosting very special music events,  “Peaceful Revolution” in Saugerties, NY, that began in 2025. Info below.

Orangutwins: Carolyn Marosy and Big Mama Freak

Debut EP release date set! New gigs coming!

We are excited to announce, on May 22, 2026 the debut EP “We Are A Genius” by Orangutwins will drop!!
Pre-order at https://orangutwins.bandcamp.com/album/we-are-a-genius

Orangutwins is rock and roll based duo, driven by catchy hooks and a wall of sound created by one guitarist/lead vocalist: Carolyn Marosy, backed with the heartbeat of tribal drumming, pounded and nuanced by Andrea Kusten aka “Big Mama Freak”.

After decades of playing in similar circles on the NYC music scene- CBGB, Continental Divide, Coney Island High, Pyramid, etc. Carolyn (ex-RAW, Sulk Weed) and Big Mama Freak (ex-Fuzztones, Freaks) finally connected in the fall of 2024 at a Woodstock, NY music event. Weeks later, they got together to jam and the “Orangutwins” were born.
The band name is a wink to their mutual love of the original “Planet of the Apes” movies and TV show, and the bizarre similarities they’ve uncovered each day!
They both have solid foundations spanning decades of gigging and studio experience, combined with a synergy for writing music.

Orangutwins keep their music expressive, fun, melodic, dissonant, structured and chaotic….no two songs sound the same, but it’s all rock and roll. They are thrilled to be making music together and look forward to bringing it to the world!

Their influences include The Who, The Fugs, John Lennon, Zappa, Hendrix, Joan Jett, Pretenders, the Clash, Jefferson Airplane, B-52s, Yoko Ono and Steppenwolf. From power riffs to psychedelic/garage rock swirl, this duo keeps the music groovin’!

Check out their live videos on YouTube. (Link below)

In January-March 2026, Orangutwins hit the studio with Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Ricky Byrd (ex-Joan Jett and the Blackhearts/Roger Daltrey/Ian Hunter) and Grammy winner Bob Stander, co-producing their first release!
Pick up their EP, sign on to the mailing list here, and join us on this ride.
Keep updated on the newest gigs, radio shows and a NYC celebration party in July.
Things are getting very exciting for the future of Orangutwins!!!

They believe in the past, present, and future of rock ‘n’ roll. Their goal is to keep it going! If you believe in rock and roll, believe in Orangutwins.

Peaceful Revolution

Music Unity Courage Kindness

Inspired by the 1960s coffeehouses and protest singers, I feel music is a healing force and way to unify and empower.
I have deep concern for our citizens and for the rights of immigrants, marginalized people and the foundations of our democracy coming under siege. As a woman and LGBTQ person, I am feeling our community additionally targeted by the rhetoric and policies of the current administration.
It is with that in mind, I have created  a safe space for like-minded people to enjoy music, unity and a resounding call for hope and peace.
I am hosting music series on the first Sunday, in January/March/May/July/September/November (switching from “monthly” in 2025 to every-other-month starting in January 2026) from 3-5pm at Rock DaCasbah in Saugerties, NY.
It will feature music, poetry and special guest(s). A portion of the proceeds will benefit local charities. More info in “shows” section.
 Hope to see you there!
This event is free.

MY CREDO:

I HAVE ALWAYS BELIEVED IN FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT:  AGAINST RACISM, SEXISM, MISOGYNY, INEQUALITY AND FASCISM. I ALSO BELIEVE IF WE WORK FOR IT, WE CAN HEAL THE PLANET AND CREATE WORLD PEACE. IF WE CAN HAVE WORLD WARS, WHY NOT WORLD PEACE??

GROWING UP, I LISTENED TO ARTISTS SUCH AS PETE TOWNSHEND, BOB MARLEY, BILLY BRAGG, JOE STRUMMER , BUFFY SAINTE MARIE, JOHN LENNON, DAVID PEEL, CHRISSIE HYNDE, JOAN JETT, JOAN BAEZ AND BOB DYLAN.

IT WAS PRETTY OBVIOUS TO ME THAT MUSIC WASN'T JUST A VENUE FOR GOOD TIMES AND LETTING GO, BUT FOR HOLDING ON AND MAKING A POSITIVE IMPACT OF CHANGE IN THE WORLD. I WAS ENAMORED BY WHAT THE WOODSTOCK GENERATION DID THROUGH THEIR MUSIC, THEIR ANTI-WAR STANCE, AND THEIR FIGHT FOR JUSTICE THROUGH MUSIC. IT IS WITH THAT PROPULSION I BECAME AWARE OF A FACEBOOK GROUP WHO WERE INSPIRED BY THE ETHOS OF JOE STRUMMER AND THE CLASH. THEY ENDEAVORED TO BRING PEOPLE TOGETHER IN REAL LIFE, AND MAKE A FILM ABOUT THE HISTORY OF REVOLUTION THROUGH SONG.

I AM HONORED TO HAVE A TRACK I WROTE, "SICK ABOUT IT" (SEE BELOW) INCLUDED IN THE SOUNDTRACK AND A PART IN THE FILM. (TRAILER BELOW!)

Update: due to various complications, this film has gone underground and will be released at a later date.

STAY STRONG...AND KEEP FIGHTING THE GOOD FIGHT.

RADIO + press

  1. Growing up, radio was one of the most powerful forces to expand my love of music. I would like to thank and acknowledge all of the stations and DJ's that have supported my music to date! As a music listener, please call your favorite station and request my music. This is how a grass roots, Independent musician thrives and your support is greatly appreciated! If you don't see your favorite station on this list...let's make it happen!! So many listeners in the last few years have turned to Spotify to find their music, but that platform does very little (almost nothing) for the independent artist. It's radio DJs, internet radio shows and podcasts that are elevating artists and remaining true to the music, not just turning a profit!!! Support these fantastic people!!

THANK YOU!

Let's start at the beginning...OCTOBER 2022!!

In 2019, Carolyn was overwhelmed with disgust by the magnitude of ignorance, misogyny, discrimination, transphobia and ineptness coming from the leaders in the US gov't. She wrote this song out of sheer frustration for what was going on. This song was celebrated by many who share her viewpoint, and it traveled half way around the world to find a home in the documentary "On Resistance Street", a film produced in the UK by Montaj Media. A new, updated version of this song is coming in 2026!!!

"On Resistance street" doc

BELFAST, NORTHERN IRELAND

October 16-22,2023

My recent trip to Belfast to see the premiere of “On Resistance Street” was an extraordinary experience!! The warm welcome I received was overwhelming. The following is a review of this historical documentary  https://louderthanwar.com/on-resistance-street-belfast-premiere-a-triumph/?fbclid=IwAR1bAy4tUDwJriOgWZKGoZE52L0fJheywsYQzZ4LGU1KUEDA8B-7LKNjM1w&mibextid=Zxz2cZ

I made so many new friends, and everyone treated me like family. The gig I played at Voodoo was truly a very heartfelt set. From the first song , played in memory of my favorite “Working Class Hero”, John Lennon,  to the last, “Redemption Song” (with a few of you that chose to come up and share the stage), my gratitude is immense. The Joe Strummer spirit was definitely with us, and the “Clash Fans Against the Right” FB group had a great time singing along to “Janie Jones”. https://youtu.be/3nV5kDUguDU

But the highlight for me, was presenting the songs from “Loners, Misfits and Rebels”. Hearing a room full of people sing “1000 Angels” was incredible. Those moments are forever etched in my heart.

While in Belfast, I was asked to play guitar on a song written by UK artist, John McGlone called “Flowers (In the Rain)”, to raise awareness for the #remembermynoah campaign. https://extramuralactivity.com/2020/08/24/remembermynoah/  We recorded it on a rainy Friday, 10/20/23 at Half Bap Recording Studios. I added some slide guitar and ebow to round out the acoustic and electric guitars that brought this lush arrangement to life!!  The song will be released internationally, very soon!! It's absolutely beautiful, and I hope it brings justice, and peace for the family. I will keep you updated when it's available! (Don't forget to sign up to the mailing list!)

A live appearance in NYC, an interview and “SICK ABOUT IT” will be featured in the movie and on the soundtrack!!

Herstory

Carolyn always knew she was a loner, a misfit and a rebel. When she finally accepted who she was, and could fully tap into her truth, she began to write songs about life and death,
tragedy and hope, resistance and survival. Digging deep to reach into her
experiences, Carolyn creates music to find balance in a world that can be
uncertain, unrelenting and unforgiving. Attitude and tenacity are keys to
adapting and thriving. Inspiration is a constant flow of give and take,
intertwining through the music, the listener and the musician.

Growing up in East Rutherford, NJ, a stone's throw from Manhattan,
Carolyn played all over New York City, New Jersey and the metro area with her alt
grunge band Sulkweed, and the blues/punk band she formed and fronted,
RAW. She cut her teeth in every rock 'n roll dive, including the
legendary CBGB, Bitter End, Kenny's Castaways, Stone Pony (Asbury Park, NJ) and Maxwell's
(Hoboken, NJ) in the 90's-2000's. Carolyn has played for audiences from
Seattle to South Africa and hundreds of places in between. With an
invite from Paul Westerberg, Carolyn once shared the stage jamming
with the Replacements, and has been reviewed as a 'musical tour de
force' in GO! Magazine. Her style echoes shades of Patti Smith, Joe
Strummer and Pete Townshend. Sonic beauty and dissonance are ever-
present, depending on how she strikes a chord, slices through a solo, or rips the violin bow
across her strings.

After RAW disbanded, Carolyn spent almost two decades gigging and
recording as a side- guitarist (rhythm and lead) for many singers and
bands, but in 2019, she decided to delve into her solo music once again,
and played a few gigs before the pandemic shutdown.

Carolyn would not allow the pandemic to slow her down, and she went
into the studio with platinum selling record producer Barb Morrison, to
record her newest material- a 4 song EP, "Loners, Misfits and Rebels".
Engineered by recent Grammy winner Jeremy Kinney, Mixed by Jon
Jetter, and Mastered by “the legend”, Grammy winner Ted Jensen at
Sterling Sound.

The first single "1000 Angels" was released on October 10, 2022, and
the full EP was released on November 21, 2022. They are available on
iTunes, Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music and most platforms!!
Through her music, Carolyn finds a purpose to inspire people to reach
into their own authentic selves to live life to the fullest.

In addition to writing three of the four songs on “Loners, Misfits and Rebels”, Carolyn directed and edited all three videos for the EP, with the assistance of her wife Beth, doing all of the videography.
Carolyn’s future ambitions include continuing to write music for her solo endeavors and her rock and roll duo, Orangutwins, as well as write a memoir and release a book of poetry. She keeps up her pace and motivation by working towards good health through sobriety, a veg/pescatarian lifestyle and a good workout!

London calling!!

Troubadour/"on Resistance street"

The last time I was in London, I made the trip to see and hear my favorite album ever, "Quadrophenia" performed live in Hyde Park by the Who in 1996. It was an incredibly amazing weekend, and I couldn't ever fathom going back almost 30 years later to have another experience that was beyond my wildest dreams. I guess if you work hard enough, good things start to happen eventually! I've been playing music for most of my life, but until April 2024, I had never played in London. I have been a fan of British music, rock and punk rock, since I was a young child. The Who, The Kinks, Sex Pistols and the Clash were all a part of my regular listening and guitar playing since before I learned to drive. When the opportunity to play in London became a not-so-distant reality, the excitement set in long before I even booked the trip! Having the amazing good fortune of linking up with the Facebook group "Clash Fans Against the Right" back in 2021 made this possible. As I became more involved with the group, and the creation of the film "On Resistance Street", it was evident that big things were happening. When a live concert event in conjunction with the film screening in London was going to happen, there was no doubt in my mind I would be there! When I got the call that the music event would be held at the legendary Troubadour in Earl's Court, I was more excited than you can imagine!! And what a great time I had...The most important aspect of this trip, in my heart, was the people. Having met a good portion of this crew during my travels to Belfast last year, I was looking forward to seeing them again, and meeting new friends and members of the CFATR. With my deepest sincerity, I've never met a more respectful and cohesive group of people, who met on a Facebook page of all places (!!) and turned our similar interests of music and politics into real life friendships and activism. But that IS the point of the group, and the film. Possibilities...and they are endless, if you take the chance to believe in yourself and others. I also had the incredible blessing of having my family join me on this amazing trip. My wife, my brother, sister in law, sister, cousin and a few friends from New York and Portugal were all on hand! It was a wonderful feeling to know how far people will go for you to watch a dream unfold in real time. The show at the Troubadour was without a doubt, the best show I have ever played as a solo artist. Whether it was the vibe of the room- the spiritual connection of Hendrix, Dylan and so many others, or the sheer gratitude I had in being there, all of the stars aligned. There were about 7 bands/solo artists in the line-up and we each were given a 20 minute set. I debuted a new song called "Meet Me in London" (a bit of an ode to Chrissie Hynde, hoping she would be there. Alas, she did not show). I had recorded a short video playing this song live at the Gibson Garage in London 2 days earlier. Lo and behold, the crowd was singing along!! What an amazing feeling! (That song needs to be recorded for sure...it's catchy!) I felt "at home" on this epic stage, like I moved into another dimension of my performance ability. I was truly 'in the moment' and made sure I locked eyes with everyone watching. The connection with each person is something I will never forget. (Big thank you to Mark Vennis for letting me use his acoustic guitar.) After the show, a group of us went to a local restaurant (I had Guinness and fish and chips!) en route to the "On Resistance Street" screening in Notting Hill. This was the 3rd time I've seen the film. Each time I watch, I catch something new. There is so much information packed into this 2-hour history lesson of music, anti-facism and activism, it's worth watching multiple times. After the film there was a panel Q&A, which was informative and interesting. Upon leaving the theatre, a bunch of people from the group were heading across the street for some bevvies. As much as my heart wanted to be there, my body said "absolutely not". I was truly 110% wiped out. Had I one ounce of energy left I would have loved to give everyone one more hug!! Sadly, I had no more gas in the tank. It happens. In closing, I would like to thank the writer, the producers and everyone involved in ORS and CFATR. You have changed my life for the better. At a time in life when people my age are looking to retire in 10 years, I am just getting started. You have solidified the resolve in me that what I am doing is important. Your words and actions have proven that. From the bottom of my heart, thank you!

I keep that little London rubber ducky in my bathroom and I see it everyday as a reminder of this adventure. I wrote a little note on the bottom so I never forget: "I felt seen, heard and embraced. My music is making a difference". Thank you! See you all soon! Meet Me in London!!
